My Tall Catch - Adventures in Tall Dating

Christmas Eve in Munich
My 1 year wedding anniversary is in a couple of weeks and when I was reaching into the fridge for some string cheese the other day, this honeymoon picture of me and my "tall catch" after our Christmas Eve dinner in Munich caught my eye. (Yep! I'm wearing a sleeveless dress, showing off my bare legs and sporting some peep toe pumps in the snow - thank you very much! Of course, this was made possible by a couple-few glasses of wine.)

The photo reminded me of how ELATED I was to hit it off with a man who met my height requirements because - let me tell you - between my height rules and my general persnicketyness, it took awhile to find him!  If you're tall, prefer a tall man and are up for some online dating, I highly recommend eHarmony.  It was SO easy to weed through the men that didn't fit my "6'3 and above" height cut-off.  It would go a little something like this.  I'd come home from work, walk run to my laptop and fire up the eHarmony account to check for my new matches.  The first thing I looked at was the height category, and since most of them were 5'8, 5'10 5'6 etc., I'd just click "close match...close match...close match" and - POOF - just like that I had narrowed my matches down to a few good (tall) men. (And now let's pause for some more honeymoon photo fun)!

Fortunately for Mr. L3  (I decided that will be my husband's name on here since Mr. LLL or Mr. Long Leggy doesn't sound right), he made it through the initial height screening (since he's 6'4) and then he made it through all of my other rigorous screening tests. And fortunately for me, he was pretty much the first guy I communicated with on eHarmony  so I didn't have to waste my time with anyone else.

Our first date ended up being 8 hours long and included lunch at my favorite Mexican restaurant, a walk around Laguna Beach where we checked out a bunch of art galleries, dessert and coffee at a restaurant on the beach during sunset, as well as  a drive up Pacific Coast Highway in his fun sports car, a walk around Balboa Island, where I was living at the time and dinner at a Chicago-style pizza place on Balboa Peninsula. It wasn't love at first sight per se, but I guess you could say we enjoyed each other's company right off the bat since our first date was probably one of the longest in the history of mankind (until our second date, which spanned 2 days and included 6 different events). Almost 2 years after we were matched on eHarmony, we tied the knot and jetted off to Europe for a 2 week winter wonderland honeymoon. There's a WHOLE lot more to our story and perhaps one day I'll submit it to eHarmony and you'll see us on a commercial.  Keep an eye out!

Wanna buy my tall jeans?

BLESSING: I have a husband who LOVES to cook (and he's REALLY good at it).

CURSE: I've gone up a pant size since we got married and a bunch of my jeans don't fit me anymore (and I don't ever foresee them fitting me, despite me starting personal training sessions in the near future, because I love my meat, taters and mac'n'cheese and love my husband's cooking too much).

FACT: You win in this situation because I'm selling the following jeans on the tall consignment site No Heels Required. Just click on the links below to go to my listings. Also, feel free to email me with any questions or leave a comment on this post, and I'll do my best to answer.  If you do an Internet search on most of these jeans, you'll find photos and more detailed descriptions on other sites.

The Print Plunge - Tall Couture Review

As you may recall, my 4 month Shopping Tall Challenge is now in full swing and, so far, 4 out of the 5 items I've ordered fit me perfectly.  As I go back and forth between wearing my tall sized clothes and my non-tall clothes, I find myself getting REALLY frustrated and pouty with the fit of some of my non-tall clothes.  For example, I'm pretty sure the sleeves on both of these non-tall sweaters that I bought a year ago are meant to be full length. But on me...not so much.  Sigh. (Click "Read More" below the photos to read on).

Exasperated! Arg!
Unintentional 3/4 sleeves. Pout!

Tall PJs!

Remember my post with the (alternate) title of Why I Need a Job ASAP - I've Pinned Way Too Many Tall Items to My Pinterest and I Want To Buy All of Them STAT But My Husband Might Not Be Too Happy With Me If I Do That?   Well guess what - I started a new job last week anndddd promptly bought 5 tall pieces of clothing!

With the new job, you'd think I'd be wanting to buy stuff for work BUT I've been obsessed with PJs lately.  I went to an outlet mall with my friend a couple of weekends ago (and if I might toot my own horn and digress for a moment, I'm pleased to report that I did NOT buy any clothes and thus did not break my shopping tall challenge). Anyways, at the outlet mall, one of the items I was enamored with (but didn't buy) was a plush, long robe.  PJs? Robes?  What's wrong with me?  I took a moment to psychoanalyze myself (as I'm often prone to do) and realized I was probably subconsciously mourning the end to my wonderful 10 months of unemployed housewifedom and was thus feeling attracted to loungey clothes (as opposed to work clothes) in an attempt to hang on to a piece of those 10 months. The good news is I love my new job and now I have new PJs that I love too!! (Click "read more" to read on).

Stuff I've Learned From Twitter - Part 2 - Tall Consignment, Searchbyinseam.com & Tall PJs

Get excited! It's time for another round of random stuff I've learned from Twitter. (In case you missed the first installment, click here.)  I had a lovely tall acquaintance ask me this week if I knew of any tall consignment stores, and I was thrilled to bits to be able to tell her I had seen something on Twitter and would get the info to her. I figured I'd share it with you too so here it is along with a coulpe of other tidbits!

1) Tall online consignment store courtesy of @tallswag (tallswag.com/) -  Always-in-the-know-about-all-things-tall 6'6 Alicia Jay delivered again when she tweeted about No Heels Required which bills itself as the "The Place to Buy and Sell Pre-Owned Tall Women's Clothing".  The selection is kind of limited right now BUT if we all start posting our gently used tall clothes for sale on the site, imagine all the fun we could have! (Sorry Mom and Sis..I may start posting my hand-me-down tall clothes on this site instead of giving them to you...please don't disown me).   P.S. Alicia Jay is having a 30% off sale on all of her T Swag tops for the month of November.  Get em while they're hot!

2) Search for jeans & pants by inseam courtesy of @redwoodclothing (redwoodclothing.com) - Allison B. tweeted about her great find SearchByInseam.com which, as I'm sure you can surmise, allows you to search for pants and jeans across a whole bunch of brands, not only by your inseam, but also by rise and price! Since I'm into screen shots these days, below is a peak at the various search options.  Also, Allison recently made her grand entrance into the tall blogsphere so be sure to check out her tall blog here.

3) Affordable hand sewn tall PJs courtesy of @LaceyWilson15 (tallgirlcrafts.com & Tall Girl Crafts Etsy shop) - I'm not quite sure what's wrong with me lately but I'm kinda obsessed with PJs.I've bought 2 pairs this week alone. (Actually I do have an inkling as to why this is, but more on that in a later post.)  When I came across a tweet from the lovely 6'3 Lacey regarding the upcoming launch of her hand sewn tall PJs, I nearly swallowed my gum with excitement.  In my mind, there's just something really cool about being able to buy a handmade garment and I LOVE supporting my fellow tall ladies in their business ventures.  So, the day that Lacey posted her tall PJ for sale on Etsy, I bought a pair!  Lacey was wonderful in helping me figure out the best fit and was even willing to add a little extra room to accomodate my thunder thighs.  I'm on pins and needles waiting for my PJs to arrive! The best part is, at $28, these are some of the most affordable tall PJs I've seen and you can get them up to 38" long!

Well that's a wrap for my second installment of Stuff I've Learned From Twitter.  Hope you enjoyed it!
