My Sister's Tall Find #1 - Long Elegant Legs Tunic

You first met my 5'11 sister when we went to the Long Tall Sally pop-up shop together and then she appeared again on the blog when she shared with us how it was to shop for preggy clothes as a tall woman.. Now she's back to show off a couple of new tall tops she's loving.

For her recent bday, she decided to shop tall with her birthday money! (Hmmm...perhaps my Shopping Tall Challenge is rubbing off on her?)  Here she is sporting a drapey tunic from Long Elegant Legs. It's a size small and she said it's a smidge tight across the buns but overall she loves it and thinks it will last a really long time because it seems to be very high quality.

After seeing how great the tunic looks on, I want one too but I don't see it on the website anymore. Phooey! I'm jealous! Uh oh. I'm having flashbacks to my fits of jealousy as a child when my sister would get something and I wouldn't. Maybe it's time to grow up. Or, I can just make myself feel better by ordering this maxi dress from LEL.  Problem solved!

Stay tuned later this week for my sister's other tall find.

Confession - I cheated on my Shopping Tall Challenge

I'm almost to the end of my 4 month Shopping Tall Challenge and I (gasp!) had my first cheat this week. It was kind of unintentional. Let me explain.

My 5'11 friend and I were at Nordstrom last weekend and randomly ended up in the PJ section. She tried on a long, soft, plush, heavenly robe from the sale rack. She fell in love and decided to snatch it up. But DRAT! It was the last one. I've been working some long hours lately PLUS it's been cold so the thought of something like that to lounge in in my 2 minutes of free time that I get every week sounded heavenly so I came home and bought it online (even though I hadn't tried it on). Clearly,  my "shopping tall" judgment was completely clouded by the memory of how soft and luxurious the fabric felt. Heck...I'm practically delirious from these long days I've been having so I was hardly conscious of what I was doing when I clicked "purchase".  (OK...fine...I'm exaggerating a little to make myself feel less guilty for my cheating.)

When I got home from work tonight,  the package was on my doorstep.  I tore open the box and threw on the robe only to find that the sleeves are WAY too short and it barely goes past mid-calf.  I think before my Shopping Tall Challenge, I would have just lived with these 2 annoyances but now that I've been buying and wearing tall specific clothes that fit and flatter like they're supposed to, I CAN"T STAND having these high water sleeves and I want a robe that goes almost to the floor dangit so I'm sending it back! I tried taking a photo, but let's be frank...no one really looks that great in a big ole robe no matter how fabulous of a pose you strike or what angle you take it at so I'll spare you the sight of that. I will show you a couple of the robes that I want to buy though.

There's this nifty little number from Simply Tall on the left which is currently on sale for $59 and a unique looking blue and white robe from Soft Surroundings on the right. If I can't even stand to have high water sleeves on a robe now, I wonder if I'll ever go back to non-tall shopping?

Match Made in Heaven - Loft Tall Sweater Dresses and HUE Tall Tights

Ever since I relocated from sunny Southern California to a part of the country that actually has seasons and a bona fide winter, I've been trying to ward off SADs (Seasonal Affective Disorder) by coming up with positive aspects to the frigidity of the winter months. Here's a good one...being able to wear boots and tights with dresses!  Remember when I told you about my shy legs and how I have a complex about showing my bare legs because of my spider veins so I tend to not wear short dresses?  I realized that my legs can safely venture out of hibernation in the winter because I can "show" them in tights.

So, when Ann Taylor Loft had some big 50% off sales during the holiday season, I snatched up a couple of tall sweater dresses (my first ever purchases from Loft by the way).  Then I ran on over to Nordstrom and Macys and scored some amazing HUE tights.

I've already gotten some really good wear out of this dress and it was only $36! I bought a size medium and it not only fits great, it's also really comfortable! I appreciate that the tie around the waist is actually attached to the dress so I feel like it's easier to position than ties you have to put through the loops.  The tights in this photo are HUE's Cable Sweater tights in size 3. Even though HUE's size chart only goes up to 6'0, these tights fit really well and feel great. (Shout out to Alicia Jay over at Tallswag for her blog post on tights for us leggy ladies! Thanks to her recommendations, I not only scored 2 great pairs of HUE tights but also some nice DKNY ones too!)

...and HUE Cable Sweater Tights

Loft Tall Merino Wool Pleated V Neck Sweater Dress...

Next up, for a grand total of $44.75, I nabbed this long sleeve sweater dress from Loft in a size medium.  I'm thinking I'm a couple-few inches taller than the model on Loft's site because this dress is a smidge shorter than I would normally wear (and definitely looks longer on the model) but I still think it fits great!  I'll probably be wearing it with leggings most of the time and will very likely just save it for dinner date night with Mr. L3. I already wore it to work once (with leggings), and I'm pretty sure I saw a raised eyebrow or two from the conservative, older ladies in the office. Don't want to be ruffling any feathers now I suppose. The tights are HUE's Textured Diamond Tights and fit a bit differently than the sweater tights because they have a control top, but I'm still very pleased with them.

I figure I need to schedule my next two laser vein removal treatments so I can be done with this whole shy leg syndrome thing, but now that I've found a way to wear short dresses without upsetting my shy legs, I'm constantly on the prowl for more dresses!

P.S. Thanks to my sis (who you first met here) for snapping these (and other) photos of me since my camera  decided to bite the dust a little big ago.
